Born February 24, 1940, in Monroe, Virginia, Josephine was the daughter of the late Edward Patrick Taylor Sr. and Linda Wilson Mayo Taylor. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Edward Patrick Taylor Jr. and Beverly Hamlett; sisters-in-law, Betty Taylor and Maxine Taylor; and brother-in-law, Aubrey Hamlett.
Josephine spent her entire life in the home where she was born and where she passed away. Her deep connection to her home and family was an important part of her life. She devoted much of her time to caring for her parents as they grew older, giving them the love and attention they needed.
For many years, Josephine worked as a secretary for Amherst County Schools at Monroe Elementary. She enjoyed talking with people and especially loved being around children. The children loved her in return, and her kindness and enjoyment of their company made those relationships special to her.
Josephine also had a great love for cats and cared for many throughout her life. Her compassion for animals was a meaningful part of who she was.
She is survived by her two brothers, Ronald Taylor (Linda) and George Taylor; special friends Karen Reynolds, Mike Hagar, and Danny Curd; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Dan Dibble officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Amherst County Humane Society, 318 Shelter Ln, Amherst, VA 24521.
