Kenneth Charles York
December 24, 1946 – August 1, 2017
Kenneth Charles York, 70, of Madison Heights, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at his residence. He was the husband of Mary Barrett York. Born December 24, 1946 in Walworth, WI, he was the son of the late Herbert and Loraine Copeland York and was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Kelsey. He was a retired truck driver with the Virginia Department of Transportation and a U.S. Army veteran. While serving his country as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War, Mr. York was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and was a two time recipient of the Purple Heart. In addition to his wife, Mr. York is survived by a daughter, Stacy Shepherd and husband Jon of Irving, TX; two sons, Erick York and wife Kelsey of Madison Heights and Nathan York and wife Jordan of Columbia, SC; a brother, Arthur York and wife Sonya of Egin, IL; six grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Ronald Kelsey of Frederick, MD. Memorial services with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, 7008 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA 22003 or the Vietnam Veterans Assoc., Chapter 196, 439 Westview Circle, Lynchburg, VA 24504. Please accept my deepest sympathies at the loss of Kenneth.I did not have the pleasure of knowing Kenneth but being a fellow Veteran we shared a bond that all Veterans share. His tour of duty has ended here but he is on duty with the LORD..God Bless you and your family...
