Born June 23, 1950 in Nelson County, he was the son of the late James Russell Bryant and the late Mae Elizabeth Gowen Bryant. Larry served our country in the United State Army and served two tours in Vietnam. He retired from Whitehearst/ Slurry Paving Company with 43 years of service. Larry was a Deacon and faithful member of Gladstone Memorial Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and his family and was a devoted husband to Mary. Larry served his neighbors and friends by cutting their grass and grading their yards and would maintain the community cemetery property. He was a quiet man who never had a cross word with anyone and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a step-son, Joseph Alfred Staton, Jr.; step-daughter, Doris “Dottie” Marie Staton; brothers, William H. Bryant and Gene Bryant; sister, Christine Wilkerson; and an infant nephew.
In addition to his loving wife, Mary Bryant, he is survived by four stepchildren, Nancy Lee Staton, William Edward Staton and wife Linda, Mary Jane Hall, and Robert Albert Staton; brothers, Wesley Bryant, James Bryant, Hayden Bryant, and Robert Bryant; sisters, Sharon Childress and Carolyn Lyon; beloved dog, Jeanie Bryant; and numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pokey’s nephew, Stevie Bryant for his care and support during Larry’s illness.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Dr. James Fetty officiating. Interment will follow at Gladstone Cemetery in Nelson County. Military honors will be presented by the Altavista/ Gretna Honor Guard.
