

Born January 15, 1945 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Robert d Mays and Thelma Mays was also preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, Eddie, and Glenn Mays. He was a retired carpenter with C.L. Lewis and was U.S. Navy veteran, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Independence during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Larry re-entered the Navy with the Seabees serving in the Vietnam War. He was of Baptist faith.
Larry is survived by two brothers, Bill Mays and wife Faye of Madison Heights and Roger Mays and wife Joyce of Amherst and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. E. Wayne Hudson officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the funeral home.
