Born on March 11, 1948, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Roy Clark and Melitta Tucker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lyle Tucker; sisters, Shirley Mays and Alice Tucker; daughter, Jessica Nicole Tucker; and two great-grandsons, Logan Ryan Tucker (Kayla) and Elijah Markham Taylor (Shane & Jessica).
Larry loved hunting, fishing, and sharing laughter with others. He was well known for his storytelling, humor, and deep love for his family. Spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought him the greatest joy.
He lived a full and wonderful life, always encouraging others to love and serve the Lord. A devout man of faith, Larry often asked those he met if they knew the Lord and where they would spend eternity. One of his proudest testimonies was that October 31st was his “birthday” —it was the day he gave his life to Christ over 50 years ago.
Larry met the love of his life, Tammy, in 1996 while they were both employed at Central Virginia Training School.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Thomas,; sister, Emma Goin (George Sr.); brother, Roger Tucker; and his children: Larry Wayne Tucker, Jr. (Dawn), Tina Tucker Zirkle (Elden), Richard Tucker (Kristie), Tony Tucker, Parker Thomas (Jessica), Jamie King and Robert Rogers.
He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Kayla (Mario), Brandon (Mindy), Shane (Jessica), Caleb (Liorah), Landon, Richard Jr. (R.C.), Nathan, Sierra, Trey, Brailynn, Audrey, Copelan, Blessing, Liberty, and Cali; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
A funeral service celebrating Larry’s life will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions in Larry’s honor are asked to consider a cause close to his heart: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Larry’s legacy of faith, love, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
