Lawrence William Humphreys Sr.

Born on October 19, 1950 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Charles Thomas Humphreys and Gertie Tomlin Humphreys.

Lawrence was a masonry with the Humphrey’s Masonry. He enjoyed playing cards, working in his garden, dancing, and singing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Maxine Ware, Peggy Whittaker, Mary Humphreys, and Doris Marie Humphreys and his brothers, Walter Humphreys and Haywood Humphreys.

Lawrence is survived by his children, Lawrence William Humphreys, Jr. and wife Tammy Jo of Madison Heights, Jeannie Dalton and Calvin Eugene Hamilton of Amherst, Judy Osment and husband Michael of Madison Heights, and Annie Freeman and husband Ronald of Madison Heights; his grandchildren, Lawrence William Humphreys, III, Walter Thomas Humphreys and wife Kellie, LeAnn Loving Humphreys, Spc. Mark Anthony Dalton, Jr., Blake Dalton and girlfriend, Krystena Sanchez, Kyleigh Hamilton, Fannie Mae Osment, Dakoda Goodbar, Rebecca Osment, Maddie Gail Osment, Christian Floyd and Kazlynne Witt, Austin Scott Freeman, Lawrence Edward Freeman, and Jessie Jean Freeman; his great grandchildren, Easton Andrew Dalton and Nevaeh Crews, who is on the way; his brother, Harry Edward Humphreys and wife Kitty, of Amherst; his sister, Blanch Ann Humphreys and Kenny Miller of Madison Heights; sister-in-law, Brenda Branham; son-in-law, Mark A. Dalton, Sr.; his ex-wife and mother of his children, Fannie Humphreys; his girlfriend, Kathy Carroll and her son and grandchild, Frankie Carroll and Harley Carroll; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery in Amherst, with Rev. Ronald Freeman officiating.
