

Born April 28, 1918, in Amherst County, she was a daughter of the late Napoleon Bonaparte Mays and Laura Campbell Mays. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, and four brothers.
Mrs. Woomer enjoyed musicals, square dancing, traveling on bus trips, and making photo albums for her family. She was a former member of the Ageless Wonders, and met monthly with her former classmates of Amherst County High School.
Survivors also include her daughter, Joyce W. Purvis, of Forest; two brothers, Theodore Mays and wife Ruth, of Monroe, and Ernest Mays, of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Deborah Purvis Semones and husband Shawn, of Salem, and Christopher Purvis and wife Tricia, of Virginia Beach; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Semones, Erin Purvis, and Chloe Purvis; special nephew, Gene Soult, of Madison Heights, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel, and at other times at the residence of Mrs. Woomer.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2010, at the funeral home by the Rev. Dr. Derik Hamby. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
