Born in Nelson County on August 27, 1935 she was a daughter of the late William Smith and Evelyn Smith. She was a retired Nurse's Aid with Westminster Canterbury.
In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by eight siblings, Jessie Smith, Douglas Smith, Les Smith, Bill Smith, James Smith, Kathleen Ramsey, Virginia Johnson, and Evelyn Johnson.
She is survived by her children, Robert Gilbert and wife Shelia of Lynchburg and James Gilbert and wife of Madison Heights; her siblings, Judy Smith and Bessie Smith both of Nelson County and Susie Stevens of Madison Heights; eight grandchildren, Jake, Matt, Jarrett, Cammy, Katey, Allyson, Carlynn and Mady; three great-grandchildren, Kovah, Beckham and Braelyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor John Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, June 20, 2022 at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence of Robert and James.
