
Born in Amherst County on December 1, 1944, he was the son of the late James Preston Maddox and Susie Ann Mays Maddox.
Donnie proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 25 years to the City of Alexandria Fire Department, retiring as Battalion Chief. Throughout his career, he earned the respect and admiration of his fellow firefighters through his leadership, commitment, and service to his community.
A devoted member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Donnie was a lifetime member who exemplified the fraternity’s values of caring and service. In recognition of his extraordinary dedication, he was awarded the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, the highest honor bestowed by the Loyal Order of Moose, reserved for members whose years of exceptional service have made a lasting impact on the organization. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Ann Maddox; and two brothers, James Richard Maddox and William Fred Maddox.
He is survived his brother, Lewis Preston Maddox and wife, Helen; and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Carroll Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
