Mary Ashley "Sally" Mays Ashley Matthews

Mary Ashley “Sally” Mays Matthews, 65, of Madison Heights, was called home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Twice married, she was the wife of William Patrick “Pat” Matthews and the late Richard Edward Mays.

Born May 12, 1946 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Ashley, Sr. and Mary Martin Ashley. She was retired from Automatic Service Company and attended Trinity Baptist Church.

Mrs. Matthews is survived by five children, Cheryl M. Gonzalez and husband, Edwin of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Vicky L. Hall and husband, Jeffrey, and Tonya Mays Gilbert, Kevin Mays and wife, Lynn and Richard E. Mays and wife, Heidi, all of Madison Heights; four brothers, Robert L. Ashley, Jr. and wife, Esther of Lynchburg, Houston R. “Tiny” Ashley and wife, Charlotte of Evington, Roy C. Ashley and wife, Thelma, and Garland “Buddy” Ashley and wife, Ada, both of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Matthews was well known and well loved by all who knew her and she will never be forgotten.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Danny Eubank officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2011 at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Vicky.
