

Mary Meacham Viar, 99, of Madison Heights passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Ralph Hunter Viar, Sr. Born November 22, 1917, in Monroe, she was the daughter of the late Elijah Carroll Meacham and the late Mabel Bessie Floyd Meacham Marsh. Mary was also the stepdaughter of the late Lester Randall Marsh.
Mary was a retired seamstress for the Genesco Company and a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church. She was the oldest and active member of the Rebekah Lodge, where she was a member for 81 years. Mary was also a member of the LAPM.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernice Meacham Jennings, Edith Meacham Hume and Helen Marsh Lefler; and one son-in-law, Carlton A. Tomlin, Sr.
Mary is survived by four children, Ralph Hunter Viar, Jr. and his wife Marjorie of Madison Heights, Shirley V. Wilson and her husband Page of Brookneal, Diane Viar Tomlin of Madison Heights and Kay Viar Layne and her husband Robert L. of Amherst; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; twenty great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Derik Hamby officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence of Diane Tomlin.
