Mary Cecil Ware

Born November 22, 1933 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Herbert L. Humphreys and Mary Phillips Humphreys and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ezra Humphrey, Massie Humphreys, and Landon Humphreys; a sister, Hazel Campbell and two grandchildren, Michael Ware, Jr. and Alyssa Ware Branham. She was retired from Central Virginia Training Center and was a member of Elon Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ware is survived by her sons, Michael Lee Ware, Sr. and wife Deborah and Phil Ware and wife Carolyn, and her daughter, Cynthia W. Layne and husband Curtis, all of Madison Heights; a brother, James Humphreys and wife Barbara of Monroe; a sister, Margaret Ewers of Madison Heights; four grandchildren, Lindsay, Daniel, Amber, and Christopher; two step-grandchildren, Samantha and Mckenzie; eight great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Kitty Humphrey and a special friend and neighbor, Mayo Knight.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Elon Baptist Church with The Rev. Steve Tyree and The Rev. Tim Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends, at the church, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and other times at the home of Mike and Deborah, 2553 River Road, Madison Heights.

The family wishes to thank Granny’s wonderful caregivers, Robyn, Mikayla, Jessie, Beth, and Mallory, along with Centra Health Hospice.
