Michael Anthony Mitchell

Michael Anthony Mitchell, 56, of Madison Heights, lost his battle with Pancreatic Cancer on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Ida Tomlin Mitchell.

Born February 12, 1959, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Jack and Mamie Mitchell. Michael worked in construction.

Michael was a simple man who enjoyed playing music, riding his motorcycles, fishing with friends, and being around his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Dawn Mitchell; brother, James Cunningham; sister, Virginia Mitchell; and step-mother, Marjorie Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Mitchell; children, Michael Mitchell, Jr., Joni Marie Mitchell, and Brian Adam Mitchell; five grandchildren, Katlyn Marie Mitchell, Emily Marie Knight, Kurt Anthony Mitchell, Brian Mitchell-Horsely, and Jack Knight; sister, Betty Wade; half-brothers, Jackie Cunningham and Richard Porter; and half-sister, Marjorie Newton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Aunt Fanny Humphryes for her loving care and support during Michael’s illness.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Evans Family Cemetery in Amherst, with Pastor Jacob Uthup officiating. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.
