Obituary of Nancy Garnett McPhatter
Nancy Garnett McPhatter, 74, of Madison Heights passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Westminster Canterbury surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Chesley Franklin “Frank” McPhatter, Jr. Born in Fredericksburg, April 1, 1944, she was the daughter of the late James Preston Garnett, Sr. and Margaret Grant Garnett. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James P. Garnett, Jr. Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend. Throughout her life she actively worked and served to support her family and others throughout the community. She never met a stranger. Nancy had an infectious smile and she always did everything that she could to affect people in a positive way. She was an active member of Madison Heights Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Lesley L. McPhatter and husband Robert A. Branham and Kristin M. Ogden and husband William, both of Madison Heights; two sons, Chesley “Chet” McPhatter, III and wife Kate of Monroe, and Michael P. McPhatter and wife Kiston of Madison Heights; twelve grandchildren, Amanda O. Kellogg (David), Ashton O. Sale (Jacob), Kendall, Caroline, and Kallena Branham, Emma, Claire, and Chesley “Chase”, IV, McPhatter and Eleanor, Preston, Lucas, and Arden McPhatter; three great grandchildren, Bradley, Britton and Marlana Sale; one sister, Beverly Ann Garnett of Forest and two sisters-in-law, Annette Johnson and Barbara Kendall both of Fredericksburg and numerous other extended family and friends. A service celebrating her life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Madison Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Todd Blake officiating. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Madison Heights Baptist Church and other times at the home of Billy and Kris Ogden. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the loving care and support provided by the staff of the 6th floor of the Drinkard Health Care Center and the support staff at Westminster Canterbury.
