

Ottie Campbell Bowling, 95 of Amherst, was called to her heavenly home Sunday, December 26, 2010 after a short illness. She was the widow of Aubrey Bowling.
Born October 9, 1915, she was the 3rd oldest child of Ralph and Manie Lou Mays Campbell. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Franklin Bowling and grandson Mark Bowling. four infant siblings, Walter, Withers, James, Maxine ; three brothers, Robert, Maurice and Cecil; three sisters, Mary Tietjen, Nettie Mays and Janice Martin, three nieces Frances, Sandra and Della and three nephews Fred, Danny Ray and Carroll W.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Eloise Bowling, Amherst , a grandson Keith and his wife Lynda, Lynchburg, granddaughters Sheryl Bowling Amherst and Christie Falkner and her husband Jimmy, Grapevine Texas., five great grandchildren, Renee Polen and her husband John, Florence S.C, Amy Rice & Jenny Rice, Goose Creek S.C.,Jeremy Almond and his wife Tracy Lynchburg and Ty Falkner, Grapevine Texas, two great -great grandchildren, Trinity and Spencer Almond, Lynchburg , four step great grandchildren, George, Bronson, Nicki and Landon, one foster brother George Layne, Lynchburg, nineteen nieces and sixteen nephews, three special sister-in-laws, Shirley Campbell (Cecil), Vernell Campbell (Robert) Cynthia Bowling (Massie) and one special brother-in-law Howard Carpenter (Liz) ; friends Marcella Johnson. Appomattox and Ruth Long, Buena Vista,, and a host of extended family and friends.
She was member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and attended faithfully until health issues arose. Never meeting a stranger, she loved the Lord, Church, Family and friends, and found some good in everyone. She was a lover of nature and all living creatures especially birds. Ottie resided at the Odd Fellows Home in Lynchburg for the past two years and the family would like to thank the staff for their compassionate care during her stay, she considered them “All Her Children”, and also three special caregivers, Becky, Mary, and Susie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church by the Revs. Judy Morris, Sal Sallinger and Carroll Martin, Jr. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., today, December 29, 2010 at Whitten Monelison Chapel on and other times at the residence.
