Phyllis Campbell Mays

Phyllis Campbell Mays, age 78 of Lynchburg, widow of Milton Troy Mays, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019. She was born on May 11, 1940 in Amherst County, daughter of the late Delma Lewis Campbell and the late Myrtle Virginia Camden Campbell. In addition to her husband Troy, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Lloyd Campbell, Lewis Earl Campbell and Marvin H. Campbell as well as a sister, Virginia C. Maxwell. Phyllis was a member of Ivy Hill United Methodist Church and was retired from Amherst County Parks and Recreation. Following her retirement, she spent a lot of her free time volunteering for the Parks and Recreation Department. She is survived by 1 brother, Dalvin “Junie” Campbell and wife Rebecca, as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Judy Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 am – 12:45 pm at the church.
