Obituary of Rachel Josephine Proffitt
Rachel Josephine Proffitt, 99, of Madison Heights passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019, at The Carrington in Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late Earl Ward Proffitt. Born October 30, 1919, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late John Dewey Clements and the late Fary Gertrude Day Clements Robins. Rachel was a retired seamstress for Dale Garment Company and a member of New Beginnings Tabernacle. Rachel loved to crochet, knit and sew, as well as, attend church. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. In addition to her husband and parents, Rachel was preceded in death by two siblings, John D. Clements and Barbara White. Rachel is survived by her children, Patricia Wilson and her husband James of Madison Heights, Virginia Watts and her husband E.A. Williams of Lynchburg, Wallace W. Proffitt and his wife Lillian of Madison Heights and Michael E. Proffitt and his wife Gypsy of Madison Heights; one sister, Julia Stinnette of Lynchburg; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Gary Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel. The family would like to express a special thank you to hospice and The Carrington for their loving care towards Ms. Proffitt.
