Richard “Dickie” Henry Gilbert, Jr., 65, of Amherst passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018. Born May 28, 1953, he was the son of Lois Arthur Gilbert and the late Richard Henry Gilbert, Sr.

In addition to his mother, Richard is survived by his children, Heidi Mays and her husband Henry of Madison Heights and Jason Gilbert of Monroe; two siblings, Randy Gilbert of Monroe and Lynn Gilbert of Richmond; and four grandchildren, Haley Burch, Benjamin Burch, MacKenzie Gilbert and Dustin Gilbert.

Dickie enjoyed fishing, camping and always loved being right. Some may remember him as being the best VW mechanic in the area, and he was a barbecue chicken King. Dickie was a loving son, father, brother and grandfather.

The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m., Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
