Robert "Bob" Howard Lang

Born in Lynchburg on June 5, 1948, Bob was the son of Mary Ann Bibb Lang Bryant and the late Howard Clayton Lang. He was preceded in death by his step-father, B. Hundley Bryant.

In addition to his mother, Bob is survived by two sisters, Jamie L. Curd (Danny) of Monroe, VA, and Nancy B. Melkerson (John) of Auburn, AL; three nephews, Robert M. Curd (Heidi) of Monroe, VA, Michael A. Shepherd of Fort Collins, CO, and Ian J. Melkerson of Auburn, AL; a niece, Rebecca E. Melkerson of Auburn, AL; two great-nephews, William M. Curd and T. Aiden Curd; step-sister, Martha Bryant; as well as extended family and a host of friends.

After graduating from ACHS in 1966, Bob joined the Air Force and was assigned to the Strategic Air Command in Minot, ND, as a computer repair specialist. On October 31, 1969, Bob was in a car accident where he sustained massive head injuries resulting in a coma. After years in several Veterans hospitals, he miraculously recovered from the coma and was transferred to Avante at Lynchburg in 1982.

Bob was accepted at The Arc of Central Virginia the next day where he faithfully attended and enjoyed his visits over the years. He was a man of faith who loved being a member of both Madison Heights and Central Baptist Churches. Bob was a fun-loving man who loved his Dr. Peppers, current events, and playing bingo. Bob had a lot of friends and always had an eye for the ladies.

Bob’s family is very appreciative of the love and support of Avante at Lynchburg, the Arc of Central Virginia, Madison Heights Baptist Church, and Central Baptist Church over the years.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, July 18, 2016, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastors Larry Fitzgerald and Todd Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.
