Rodger Colleen (Wright) Candler, age 87, of Madison Heights, Virginia passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Mutt was born in Charlottesville, Virginia to Margaret Elizabeth Wright (Poindexter) and Charles Henry Wright.
Rodger was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James Alfred Candler, Sr.; her sister Jean Dillard and her brother Poindexter "Dexter" Wright. She is survived by her son Charles Candler (Patricia); her son James Alfred Candler, Jr.; and her son David Lewis Candler; her sister Shirley Harris, her brother Joseph Lynnwood Wright (Charlotte) and her sister Phyllis Smith (John); her granddaughter Erica Dawn Candler (Nick DeSalvo), her grandson James Radford Candler (Jessica Webster), her granddaughter Jillian Nicole Candler Lordahl (Eric); her granddaughter Jacqueline Leigh Candler; her 8 great-grandchildren Mackenzie Grace Gilbert, Madisyn Cole McClain, Erica and Brenden Lordahl, Colton Ace Webster, and Destiny Raine, James Maxwell, and Stormy Alexis Lee Candler, as well as many other dear family members and friends.
Rodger was a graduate of Nelson County High School. She babysat many of the neighborhood kids. She was a loving wife to a retired naval veteran. She retired from Virginia Baptist Daycare.
She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Madison Heights, she loved sunshine, plants, and flowers, and hated the cold…..”Snow” was a dirty word to her. In her younger years she loved to walk miles and miles. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved making them pancakes on the weekends.
A memorial service for Rodger will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Whitten Monelison Chapel, 3966 S Amherst Hwy, Madison Heights, Virginia 24572.
