

The Lord called home his faithful servant and Deacon, Roy E. Childrey, 71 of Madison Heights, on Sunday May 26, 2013 at his residence. He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 29 years, Hazel W. Childrey.
Born January 20, 1942 in Halifax, he was the son of the late William “Buck” Andrew Childrey and Mattie Betterton Childrey. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Victor Childrey; a sister, Carolyn Overby; and a step-son, Tony D. Martin.
Survivors also include his daughter, Teresa C. Hutcherson (Scott) of Renan; 3 step daughters,
Connie Woodroof (Robert), Mary Newton (Steve) of Madison Heights, and Shelby Martin (John Reed) of Concord; god-daughter, Candace Cassada of Norfolk; 6 grandchildren, Brandy Moon (Jeremiah) of
Gretna, Steve Newton Jr. (Janet), and Chelsea Newton of Madison Heights, Brian Rossi Jr. (Logan),
Abraham Rossi, and Delilah Rossi of Concord; great-granddaughter, Skylar Newton; and a great-
grandchild on the way; 3 brothers, John W. Childrey of Warrenton, William L. Childrey (Carolyn) of South Boston, and Mitchell R. Childrey (Charlotte) of Danville, numerous nieces and nephews.
Roy was a faithful Deacon and member of Northside Baptist Church in Madison Heights, until his recent decline in health. He was of the Baptist faith from a young age. He dearly loved his family and Church family. He never met a stranger he was always willing to help the less fortunate. He was employed by Babcock and Wilcox Mt. Athos as a Quality Control Supervisor for 38 years. He leaves behind his faithful companions, Buddy, Little Bit, lady, Midnight, and Precious they will miss him very much, as well his family.
The family will receive friends tonight, from 6-8:00 pm, Monday, May 27, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, and at other times at the residence.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, at the funeral home by the Rev. Jacob Uthup. Interment will follow in Meade Cemetery.
After the service all family and friends will meet at Northside Baptist Church. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Northside Baptist Church in Madison Heights, or Hospice of the Hills.
