Ruth Walker Lyons

Born on December 14, 1924 in Appomattox, she was the daughter of the late Robert Wiley Harvey and Lelia Tucker Harvey.

Ruth was a faithful member of Madison Heights Baptist Church helped in the hand bell choir. Before moving to Madison Heights, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Alexandria, where she taught Sunday School.

She was the beloved mother of two daughters, Diane Lyons Peele and husband John and Lynne Lyons Morcom; grandmother to David Peele and wife Shawna, Mindi Worosz and husband Tom, Bonny Unrue, Kelly Hall and husband Kyle, and David Williams and wife Joanna; and great grandmother to thirteen wonderful great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and doctors at Centra Hospice for their loving care and support during Ruth’s illness.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Todd Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
