Born in Nelson County, August 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Dennis Hash and Emma Lee Martin Hash. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William David “Bill” Story, Sr. and her son, William David Story, Jr.
Ruth was retired from Babcock & Wilcox. She was a longtime member of Amelon United Methodist Church having served in the choir and the kitchen committee where she was affectionately known as “Sarge”. Ruth also was the bookkeeper for Strother Drug for a number of years and oversaw Meade Cemetery in Madison Heights. Ruth loved to play golf and was a member of Winton Country Club. She also enjoyed camping, she and her husband were members of Lynchburg Wheelers. However, her most cherished role was that of a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Dennis R. Story (Debra); her daughter Pam S. Newbern (John); two grandchildren, Winter I. Jacynyk and Michael P. Jacynyk; seven great grandchildren, Andrew Reed, Nolan Reed, Kendall Jacynyk, Rosemary Mott, Hannah Jacynyk, Madeline Jacynyk and Abigail Jacynyk; her sister, Mary Christian (Jerry); brother, Robert Wade Hash; daughter-in-law, Susan Story; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hash; brother-in-law, Charles Story and a dear niece, Teresa Hash Dobbins (Chess).
A memorial service celebrating Ruth’s life and faith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Amelon United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Edinger officiating. The church will host a reception following the service.
