
Sadie Dolan Tharpe, 89, of Amherst, passed away, Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Fairmont Crossing. She was the wife of the late Willard “Bill” Breckenridge Tharpe. Born June 3, 1922, in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Clifford P. Dolan and the late Carrie Stinson Dolan.
Mrs. Tharpe was a retired saleswoman for Avon, and a member of Central Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Tharpe was preceded in death by one son, Larry W. Tharpe; one grandson, Jonathan Lee Adams; one beloved son-in-law, Marshall M. Adams; six brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Tharpe is survived by one daughter, Nancy Tharpe Adams of Bedford; one grandson, Kevin M. Adams and his wife, Alison of Bedford; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Michelle Adams; three sisters, Frances D. Bryant of Madison Heights, Eva D. Brooks and her husband, Pete of Lynchburg and Hazel D. Brooks and her husband, Billy of Shipman; a number of loving nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends; and a very special friend, Helen Bates, who is like a sister to the family.
A private graveside service will be conducted, 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Amherst Cemetery with the Rev. Jason Canipe officiating.
There will be no scheduled visitation at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the neighbors and friends for their many acts of kindness through the years. Also a special thanks to a special friend, Genevieve Clements and her family, who helped out during Mrs. Tharpe’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amherst Rescue Squad.
