

Born in Charlottesville, September 4, 1946 she was the daughter of the late George Washington Napier, Jr. and Annie Louise Spencer Napier. Shirley retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after 33 years of service. Shirley was an avid gardener and loved flowers of all kinds and tending to her vegetable garden. She attended Cool Springs Pentecostal Church.
Twice married, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Perry Knott and is survived by her husband, Harold Lloyd Massie, Sr. She is also survived by two step-sons, Harold Massie, Jr. and his wife Donna of Madison Heights and Jeff Massie and his wife Donna of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one step-daughter, Debbie Thurman and her husband Russ of Madison Heights; one brother, G. Wayne Napier of Evington and one half-brother, George W. Napier, III. and her nephew, Jonathan Napier. Shirley was also an animal lover and leaves her Maltese, Diddles, her Shisu Susie and her Cat Do Da.
She was preceded in death by one step-son, Greg Massie.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Larry Myers and the Rev. Todd Blake officiating. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the funeral home.
