Stanley "Roger" Buchanan

Stanley “Roger” Buchanan, age 79 of Monroe, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018.
He was born on September 3, 1938 in Halifax County, Virginia, son of the late John Richard Buchanan and Eddie Austin Buchanan.
Roger was a member of Northminster Evangelical Presbyterian Church and had retired from B&W in 1997.
He played music all his life and was a member of Monroe Station Bluegrass Band for 25 years. Through the years he and the band had won many awards. In 2000 he was the Virginia State Fiddle Champion. His passing will leave a big gap in the Bluegrass World in Central Virginia. In addition to his music he also had a passion for chitterlings and was a member and cook for several chitterling clubs in Amherst County.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Buchanan and David Buchanan as well as his sisters, Jane Buchanan and Ruth Epes.
Survivors include his best friend, Bonnie Wine; two daughters, Janet Mayhew and Donna Wolf; sisters, Dorothy Wilmoth of Halifax and Blanch Bare and husband David of Ft. Payne, Alabama. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Northminster Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
There will be a visitation at the church immediately following the service.
