Born on July 6, 1949, he was the son of the late John and Mamie Mawyer.
Steve retired from Greif Papermill, where he served as a Lead Man in the shipping department. He was known for his strong work ethic and his dedication to ensuring his family was well cared for. He was a simple man who enjoyed the things he loved most, including NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, San Francisco 49ers football, and listening to his favorite rock music. Steve was a talented handyman, always willing to lend a hand, whether it was fixing things around the house or working on cars for family members. He loved all his children equally and would do anything for any of them.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Edith “Dianne” Mawyer; his five children, Lisa Noe (Jeff), Margaret Burks, Steve Mawyer, Jr. (Tina), Candy Pennell, and John Mawyer; four stepchildren, Jamey Snow, Alex Snow, Tiffany Snow, and Jessica Maddox; and one sister, Brenda Anerton; twelve grandchildren, Ricky Burks, Laura Mawyer, Amy Mawyer, Shawn Edwards, Jerry Edwards, Abby Snow, Jackson Snow, Keyston “Big Man” Maddox, Aliyah Carter, Katie, Aubrey, and Jonathan; eleven great-grandchildren; and his lifelong friend, Jerry Coffey, with whom he shared many cherished memories.
Steve will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his willingness to help them all. His love and the memories he leaves behind will continue to be treasured by his family and all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with Minister Cynthia Branham officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery.
