Thelma Tomlin Mayberry, 85, of Madison Heights entered into eternal peace on the morning of Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at home. She was the wife of the late Lynn Thomas Mayberry. Thelma and Lynn were married for 50 years.
She was born September 9, 1930 in Amherst County to the late Ward Walter Tomlin and Dolly Lou Tomlin. She was a 1950 graduate of Amherst County High School. She retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after 33 years of service, and loved working with special needs people. Thelma loved to bake and was known by her friends and co-workers for her delicious cakes. She loved animals and had many special cats and dogs over her life. Her proudest accomplishment was being a wife, mother and grandmother and to those she gave unconditional love.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by two sons, Mike Mayberry of Madison Heights, Les Mayberry of Lynchburg; two daughters, Joyce Mayberry Stowers of Bedford and Joan Whaley and her husband Joe of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Drew Whaley, Matthew Mayberry, Patrick Whaley, Stephanie Mayberry, Kelly Mayberry and Parker Whaley and two great grandchildren, Alyssa McDaniel and Camden Herndon.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Seven Hills Hospice, Fairmont Crossing and Heartland Medical Care Center for the excellent care given to our mom.
A celebration of her life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
