Vernon "Smokey" Lee Harris

Born December 15, 1958 Smokey had a deep love for sports and an unwavering passion for the great outdoors. Whether he was casting a line into a quiet lake, heading out on a hunting trip at dawn, or cruising across the water in his canoe, he felt most at peace surrounded by nature. These outdoor adventures weren’t just hobbies for Smokey — they were a way of life that brought him joy, clarity, and a profound connection to the world around him. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he cherished every opportunity to share these moments with family and friends.

In addition to his parents Smokey was preceded in passing by his brother Warren Joseph Harris Jr.; and niece Ivory Lynn Wern Tomlin.

Those left to cherish Smokey’s memory include his Fiancée and Travel Companion of more than 20 years Edith Marie Lane, her son Thomas "Tommy" Lane and his wife Ronda Lane and daughter Carol Lane Proctor; his sister Deborah Harris Droog and her husband Charlie of Forest; his son William Joseph Harris and his wife Katie of Blacksburg, VA; his grandchildren Jake and Emma Harris; his nephew John Allen Wern, Jr.; his great nieces Josie Wern and Carly Wern of Senoia, GA, and great nephew Shrader Tomlin; he was also a very devoted Papa to Alexander "Alex" Proctor, "TJ" Proctor and Jeremy "Neil" Lane; and had countless more Harris and Shrader Cousins.

A memorial service for Smokey will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 3pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel, officiated by Pastor William Yaegel.
