
Born March 31, 1936 in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Harrison and Annie Orange Overstreet and was also preceded in death by eight brothers, Rufus Overstreet, Elmer Overstreet, William Overstreet, Robert Overstreet, Arthur “Shag” Overstreet, Eugene Overstreet, Freddie Overstreet, and Luther Overstreet and two sisters, Esther Orange and June O. Kean. Mrs. Powers was retired from General Electric and was a Beta Club Member and a Hospice Volunteer. She was a member of Westview Baptist Church.
Mrs. Powers is survived by two daughters, Debi Hardway and husband Ken of Virginia Beach and Cindy Powers of Westerville, OH; one brother, Alfred Overstreet and wife Irene of Springfield; two grandchildren, Brittany Hardway and Christy Ross; three great-grandchildren, Curtis Moore, Morgan Ducret, and Brooke Ross; her favorite niece, Joan Wilson of Madison Heights; a special nephew, Jay Powers; many other nieces and nephews and three sisters-in-law, Shirley Overstreet of Bedford, Patsy Coleman and husband, Omer of Maysville, KY, and Evelyn Jarrett and husband Jim of Scarbro, West VA.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 1012 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Ron Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 1, 2012 at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Virginia’s faithful caregivers, Carol Ann, Michalle, Valerie, Ashelley, Dawn, Barbara, and Rhonda. They also want to say special thanks for the support of Charles and Phyllis Elliott and her Sunday school class from First Baptist Church of Norfolk and to Odyssey Hospice for caring for Mom and us with great love, especially Pat, Julie and Sherry.
