Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Manson Heath Proffitt and the late Marietta Tinner Proffitt.
Bud was a retired supervisor for Commercial Steel and a drywall installer for Shawn L. Proffitt Drywall Co. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by three sons, Buddy J. Proffitt and his wife, Joan, of Winston-Salem, N.C., Jerry Lee Proffitt and Shawn L. Proffitt, both of Madison Heights; one brother, Manson H. Proffitt, Jr., of Madison Heights; three sisters, Dorothy P. Norvell of Lynchburg, Mae P. Hartless of Madison Heights and Marion P. Barrs of Amherst and five grandchildren, Weston J. Proffitt, II, Joshua L. Proffitt, Casey Proffitt, Jensen Proffitt and Kyler Proffitt.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2013, at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors.
