Bill is survived by his wife of 72 years, Virginia (Gina) Louise Spievak and their five children; William David Fell and wife Nancy of Riner, VA, Richard Douglas Fell and wife Barbara of Blacksburg, VA, Jeffrey Donald Fell of Amherst, VA, Judith Anne Fell of Salt Lake City, UT and Steven Daniel Fell and wife Nancy of Chattanooga, TN; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Bill was born an only child in Youngstown, Ohio to parents Evan E. and Esther King Fell. He proudly served in Europe as an Army 1st Lieutenant in World War II and graduated with a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University. He married Gina, also an only child, in August of 1946.
Employed as a Chemical Engineer by Exxon for more than 30 years, Bill and his family traveled extensively overseas. They lived in several states, Japan and Thailand before retiring to Amherst, Virginia in 1976. An avid reader, Bill enjoyed many interests over the years including gardening, tennis, sailing, astronomy, bridge, dancing, big band music, Sherlock Holmes and good bourbon. Bill was an active member of the local Rotary Club for many years and a member of the Amherst Presbyterian Church. He also taught drafting for three years at Amherst County High School. Known for his great sense of humor, Bill had many friends in the community. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Ray Roberts officiating. A reception will follow the service until 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amherst Presbyterian Church or Amherst Rescue Squad.
