

Born July 11, 1936 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late J. Jordan and Beulah Mae Tomlin and was also preceded in death by one brother, Carlton Tomlin and two sisters, Ora Mae and Betty Sue Tomlin. Mr. Tomlin retired from Montague Betts as a steel fabricator and was a member of Smyrna U.M. Church.
Mr. Tomlin is survived by four daughters, Jane Foster and her husband, Gary, Marie Bryant and her husband, Bobby, Linda Thompson and her husband, Robert, and Sheila Trent and her husband, Paul; two sons, James Edward Tomlin and wife, Sharon and Harry Tomlin and wife, Patricia, all of Amherst County; three sisters, Mildred Falls, Barbara Campbell, and Pat Cash; three brothers, Frank Tomlin, Wayne Tomlin, and Arch Tomlin; ten grandchildren, Christy, Angie, Mandy, Jennifer, Terri, Travis, Brittany, John, Cody, and Trevor; nine great-grandchildren and his former wife and friend, Corennia Tomlin.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Joyce Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Smyrna U.M. Church, The Muscular Dystrophy Assoc., or the American Cancer Society.
