Betty Lou Prowse Conley

Betty was born on June 7th, 1943, to Dorthy Ethel Evans Prowse and John Jake Prowse, the eldest of nine children. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her life was marked by faith and devotion.

Betty loved the Lord and found great joy and comfort in her faith throughout her life. She especially loved singing gospel hymns, and those songs remained close to her heart through the years, even until the very end. One of her favorite hymns was “In the Garden”, and it held a special place in her heart. Her husband, Bill, would often request that she sing it for him, creating a precious memory for her and later for her family that will always be treasured.

Betty shared her life with her loving husband, William Franklin Conley, until his passing in 2001. Their marriage and the life they built together held a lasting place in her heart. After Bill's death, Betty never remarried, remaining devoted to his memory.

Perhaps no part of Betty's life better reflected her selfless love than her devotion to her son, Timothy Lewis Conley. For 57 years, until his death in 2022, Betty lovingly cared for Tim who had special needs. She dedicated much of her life to making sure he was cared for, protected, and surrounded by love. It was a responsibility she carried not simply out of duty but with the love of a devoted mother who had a made a promise to God that if she could have this baby, she would take care of him all her life.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers, Johnny "Bub" Prowse and David Lee Prowse, her loving husband, William “Bill” Conley and her beloved son Timothy Conley.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory in their hearts, including her son, Brian Conley and his wife Suzette; her daughter, Stacy Lucas and her husband Matthew; her sisters and brothers, Ruth Ellison, James Prowse (Merla), Marie Angus (Butch), Rose Mary Proctor (Roger), Helen Woody (John), and Wesley Prowse; her grandchildren, Isaac Conley (Savannah), Heather Holtsclaw (James), Brittany Scott (Charlie) and Joey Osborne; and her nine great grandchildren, Bradley Conley, Caleb Conley, and Eric Conley, Aubrey Holtsclaw, Riley Holtsclaw, and Conner Holtsclaw, and John Scott, Harrison Scott, and Roxanne Scott.

Betty's family and friends will remember her for the love she gave, the memories she created, her unwavering faith in The Lord, and the special place she held in the lives of so many.

With Betty’s earthly journey now being complete and knowing that she has gone home to be with the Lord whom she served faithfully, her family finds comfort knowing that she is reunited with her loving husband, Bill, her mother, Dorthy, and her beloved son Tim and that the burdens of this life are now behind her. Perhaps now they are all walking together in the garden with the Lord that they all so dearly loved.

Family and friends will be received for visitation on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, 4203 Salines Drive, Malden, West Virginia with Pastor Tom Moore officiating.

There will be no graveside service.
