Carl Calvin Spitzer Jr.

Carl Calvin Spitzer Jr., 81, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away, November 9, 2022. He was born in 1941 in a Meadow River Lumber Company house in Rainelle, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Sr., and Elsie Hammond Spitzer.

Carl graduated from Dupont High School, WV, class of 1958. He married the love of his life April 25th, 1958 and enlisted in the US Coast Guard, having served from 1958-1961.

He retired from the State of Georgia as a Safety Inspector and went on to enjoy his retirement camping, fishing, and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Dad always had something witty to say, one request was that onions were to be handed out at his funeral so everyone would be sure to cry. He loved the Lord and even in the midst of his battle with dementia, when words would fail him, he could still pray with passion and power. God worked through him even until the end. He will be forever loved and always missed.

Survivors are his loving wife of 64 years Nada J. (Young) Spitzer of Augusta, Ga; a son, Carl David (Susan) Spitzer of Hurricane, WV and their children, Jennifer (Keith) Campbell, Melissa (Antonio H) Spitzer, and David A. (Mindy) Spitzer; son Dana (Loree) Spitzer of St. Mary’s, WV and their children, Lance (Whitney) Spitzer, Derek (Tiffany) Spitzer, and Noah (Kayla) Spitzer; a daughter Tonya (Scott) Daniel of Grovetown, GA and their children Zachary Daniel, Benjamin Chancey and Summer Daniel. 16 great-grandchildren and sisters Lillian Locker of Ohio and Brenda Delea of New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Rev. Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
