Born on October 16, 1949, in Charleston, West Virginia.

On August 25, 2026, God took another sunrise walk in the Rose Garden of Life and looking out for one of his flowers. Danny’s love for flowers made him easy to find. In the Rose Garden, His Lord offered His divine hand to Danny’s soul to join Him in ascending to Heaven where Danny’s father and mother (Harold E. and Emma Marilee Gay Proctor) awaited. Danny navigated many miles on Earth before his final journey with his Lord and Savior

Danny fully embraced family, from his immediate relatives to his extended family. Danny met his loving and loyal wife of 43 years, Cathy Sue Lucas Proctor of Rand during their days as the work family at the Diamond Department Store in Charleston until that remarkable year of 1983. The Diamond closed and Danny was going to make sure he didn’t lose the love of his life by placing a ring on Cathy’s finger. The couple later began their little family with the birth of their dearly beloved son, Christopher Proctor. Chris and his wife, Kaylah will treasure many memories of days with Danny... Danny grew up on Dutch Ridge in Quick, West Virginia where he attended O’Dell Elementary, a one-room school that endeared itself to Danny and his surviving brother, Randy Proctor of Fairmont/Charleston (retired West Virginia State Police). Randy and Danny enjoyed their childhood in the rural countryside of their beloved state. The Proctor boys, their “sister,” Cousin Carol Thom of Charleston, and the next generation are known to enjoy a WVU football game or two. That next generation, including Uncle Danny’s nieces and nephew, are left to cherish memories of him, Tracy (Mike) Asbury .Kristi (Billy) Swisher, Rick (Jessica) Proctor, Christa Lucas, and Kenny (Becky) Lucas.

It was obvious that Danny had an ability to bond with kids of all ages. Danny often assisted Santa Claus as one of his surrogates at malls, stores or parties throughout when the jolly elf overbooked his appearances. He was also known for his celebration of His Lord’s birth by the vast Christmas displays at home, Then, during his recent employment as an aide with exceptional children in Kanawha Valley Schools. But his ability to connect was never more extraordinary when Danny and Shane Damron crossed paths. Damron came into Danny’s life as a friend to Christopher. It didn’t take long to discern the relationship was developing into something more precious, Damron becoming Danny and Kathy’s bonus son.

Time seemed to lead Danny back to Herbert Hoover High School where he was a 1967 graduate of the school on the banks of the Elk River and former member of the Marching Huskies Band where he played clarinet. Danny revered his alma mater, returning to being an essential volunteer for the band while his son Christopher played in the band from 2004 to 2008. His loving wife taught English at Herbert Hoover for the majority of her 31 years as a teacher as well. Many long days and nights pulling the band’s equipment trailer to away football games and band events including Band Camp provided Danny with more adventures than his hunting and fishing conquests or his distance running throughout the valley and his Charleston Distance Run days.

Danny was often seen at Kanawha Salines Presbyterian Church performing work of his Lord. Since his membership in 1983, he served as a Deacon, Elder and choir member at Kanawha Salines. Danny carried his everlasting testimony of faith in God’s mercy to his favorite place on Earth as he frequently vacationed at Anna Marie Island in Florida. Anna Marie Island was Danny’s special place from childhood vacations to his honeymoon with Cathy to his vacations with her and Chris.

We have been blessed to have had many good and compassionate people cross our paths during our visit to this world. We would like to thank our extended family of the nurses and staff of 5 East at Charleston Ares Medical Center Memorial Division, Montgomery General Hospital and Kanawha Valley Hospice for their compassion and care throughout the last year in comforting us during Danny’s labors with his final preparations for his trip through the shadowy valley of death to his eternal home. We also want to thank everyone that has offered a hug, a prayer, a smile or a compassionate offering. Cathy and Chris would especially like to thank niece Tracy Asbury for her dedication and her support throughout Danny’s last days.

Cathy wants to send a very sincere thank you to her cousin Kathy Jo for being there for her during Danny’s illness. She would talk to Kathy Jo while driving home of sitting with her at Hospice.

Danny was quick to help all of God’s creation. To show your love for Danny, the family suggests donations be made in Danny’s name to Kanawha Hospice Care at Make a Donation - HospiceCare, Kanawha Charleston Humane Society, or because Danny was a frequent donor of blood, the family would encourage friends to donate blood in Danny’s memory.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday August 31, 2026, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Rev. Randy Campbell, Rev. Andrew Styer and Pastor Craig Petry officiating.

Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 PM Sunday August 30, 2026, at the funeral home.
