

Densil Berton “Bert” Pritt June 2, 1931 – June 5, 2015 Heaven came down and glory filled the soul of Bert Pritt who completed his journey to join Heaven’s choir on Friday, June 5. Bert’s faithful presence throughout the past 50 years in the Eastern Kanawha Valley working in multiple community events will be forever engrained in the hearts of those he touched. Bert could always be found befriending anyone he met with a cheerful story he cherished from his life’s journey, or demonstrating his love and pride for his family as he spoke kindly to all. Bert could always be found graciously reaching out his hand to assist others in his desire for bettering the community of Rand which he loved. His joyful presence, constant smile and eagerness to extend his helping hand without question will forever be remembered fondly. Bert loved serving his country and his life- long community of Rand. After graduation from DuPont High School in 1949, he served honorably in the US Navy . He continued his military service by serving 34 years in the West Virginia Air National Guard as a jet propulsion mechanic until his retirement as a MSGT in April, 1986. Bert graduated from West Virginia State University while raising six children and working fulltime. He will be remembered as a valued team member at the DuPont Operations in Belle , as a supervisor in the lab until his retirement after 30 years . He unselfishly extended his passion for assisting others as a voluntary fireman in Rand for many years and was a valued founding member of the Rand Lions Club. Bert touched the lives of numerous members of the eastern Kanawha Valley through his love of the church and devotion to Christ as a faithful Sunday School teacher and choir director of the St. John’s United Methodist church in Rand for over 40 years. Bert goes before us to join his loving family members including his father and mother, Densil and Dorothy Pritt; brother Johnny Pritt; sister Connie Pritt Ghee; brother Ronnie Pritt ; and sister in law Dora Pritt who preceded him to cross the river Jordan to their Heavenly homes. He will be missed dearly by his sister Bonnie Massey of Belle; brothers Kenneth and wife Dorothy of Florida; Hugh and wife Peggy of Florida; Keith of Charleston and Sister- in-law Peggy Pritt-Cooley of Rand; Brother in Law Bill Ghee of Waco, Texas. Bert will be missed by his friends at Rand Community Center as well as his fellow Lion Club members. Bert worked unselfishly throughout his life to provide for his family which he placed first and was proud to be their leader. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Joretta who walked with him hand in hand for 63 years ; daughter Cathy and husband Dennis Klingensmith ,of Buckhannon (Gabe,Kellie); son Bob and wife Cassie Pritt of New Orleans (Ami); daughter Becky and husband Charles Brannon of Charleston (Amanda, Tommy); daughter Terri and husband Robert Phillips of Statesville, NC (Jason,Erin); son Brett and Wife Carla of Charlotte NC, (Megan, Emily); and son Brian and wife Elaine of Charleston (Andy, Robert); Great Grandchildren, Kaelyn, Addyson, Brady, Keira, Sloan, Hudson and Jaxon. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the members of the St Francis Hospital staff and his care giver Tasha who extended their kindness to assist Bert in his struggle the past year and brought that loved smile to his face when they reached out to assist him. Stevens and Grass Funeral Home in Malden are in charge of the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled Sunday June 7, 2015 from 6-8PM at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be Monday June 8 at 1:00 PM also at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Graceland Memorial Park in South Charleston. In lieu of flowers the family would request donations to St John’s United Methodist Church in Rand,C/O Chuck Brannon 3700 Coal Fork Drive, Charleston, WV 25306.
