

Edwin (Brownie) Brown, 101, of Charleston, passed away after an extended illness. Edwin was born on December 28, 1923. He was the son of the late Edward Brown and Tressa Burdette Brown. He was a dedicated father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family deeply.
Edwin served in the United States Navy as welder, during WWII aboard the USS Essex. He would often share stories about his time in the military. After the war ended, he worked as a welder in industry and later taught welding at Carver and Ben Franklin Career Centers. He retired from Kanawha County on June 13, 1986. After he retired, Edwin loved camping and fishing with his wife, Janice. They enjoy many hours on the lake fishing and sitting around the campfire with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, Edwin was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 52-year, Janice Skiles Brown; daughter, Diana Brown Hoffman and son in law, Ralph Hoffman, sister, Helen Brown Bush; and twin brother, Ed Brown.
Edwin is survived by daughter, Kathy S. Brown Hudson (Gary); son, Martin L. Brown (Kathy); grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Chad Hudson, Palm Springs, CA. Nathan L. Hudson and his daughter, Jolee Hope Hudson, Charleston, Ryan M. Hudson and his children, Hannah Brooke Hudson, Chase R. Hudson and Tyler B. Hudson, Morgantown, Sara Brown (Nicole) and their daughter, Raegan A. Brown, Jerod L. Brown (Sonya) and their children, Colbie L. Brown and Jerod L. Brown.
Edwin's family would like to thank the dedicated workers at Center Well Home Health for their devotion and caring support. A huge Thank You to friends and family who offered support through calls of encouragement, drop-in visits, and kept dad and our family in your prayers. We are very grateful for each of you.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, 4203 Salines Dr. Malden, WV 25306 with Pastor Ed Damron officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.
Family and friends may gather for one hour prior to service time at the funeral home Thursday.
