Ella Marie Higgins

Marie was born in Grundy, Virginia, on June 14, 1942, to the late Harvey and Frankie Childress Deskins. She was a retired Home Health Nurse and worked for the former Summers Street Martinizing in Charleston. Marie also attended Spring Fork Baptist Church on Campbells Creek.

Along with her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husbands, Carvel Jack Vance, Curtis A. Plantz and Chuck Higgins; and a son, Benjamin C. Vance.

Marie is survived by her children, Harvey (Sue) Vance of Coppers Creek, Jacqueline Hill of Easley, South Carolina, Kenneth (Judy) Vance of Poca, Danny Vance of Charleston and Leslie (Sandy) Vance of Elkview; sister, Glenna Keen of Grundy, Virginia; brothers, Harlen and Wendell Deskins of Grundy, Virginia, Remar Deskins of Abingdon, Virginia, Wayne Deskins of Charleston and Larry Deskins of Grundy, Virginia; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Mike Long officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
