

Ernie was born in Charleston on August 12, 1947, to the late Wilbur Eli and Dorothy Thomas Morgan. He was a retired Chemical Operator with Bayer Crop Science at Institute and an Army Vietnam Veteran.
Ernie was a born-again Christian. He was a member of the Dry Branch Freewill Baptist Church and was strong in his faith and his convictions. He loved the Lord, his family, and his Country. He was a craftsman and enjoyed God’s creation which made him an avid outdoorsman by hunting and fishing. He loved riding motorcycles and making the “Run for the Wall” with his fellow veterans. Ernie always said, “I Thank God for His Grace and Mercy on Me.”
In 2009, he became known as “Poppy” to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Debbie Harmon Morgan; sons, James “Jamie” (Kelly) Morgan and Ernest “Todd” (Amber) Morgan, all of Hurricane; sister, Anna Mae (Richard) McCormick of St. Albans; sister-in-law, Diana Egnor of St. Albans; half-sister, Mary Belle Rhodes of Virginia; grandchildren, Daniel, Cameron and Caleb Morgan, Timothy and Kaydence Workman and Eva Grace Stover; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastors Greg Stover and Charles Hardy officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the Funeral Home.
To his family and friends, Ernie wanted to leave a message: “Rejoice, I am HOME, and I’ll be waiting for each of you.”
