

Rev. Ernest “Ernie” Lee White, Sr., 79, of Charleston, died Monday, January 26, 2015, following a long illness. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith . . . (2 Timothy 4:6-7) Ernest completed his journey upon this earth and has entered into the Kingdom of Heaven. He was a great man. He tirelessly served his church, community, neighbors, and co-workers. He was a hard worker who strove for perfection, and he dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and the treasure of his life, his wife. He will be dearly missed. Ordained on April 7, 1963, he served as the pastor of First Baptist Church of Standard for over twenty-seven years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #152 Charleston and the Union Local 625. He worked at E.I. DuPont of Belle, WV for ten years, J.E. White Construction Company for four years, and, for the remaining thirty-four years of his career, at ELCO. He truly loved his job at ELCO and had great respect and appreciation for Tom and Steve Ellis, the owners. Ernest leaves his wife of 49 years, Freda White; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie and Buzz Miller of Tucson, AZ and Chloe White at home; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Lee and Kitty White of Charleston, Michael and Robin White of Charleston, and Rob and Stephanie White of Fort Myers, Florida; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his sister, Louise Snodgrass; and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lucille White; and two sisters, Mary Jane Savage and Linda Kidd. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2015, at Spring Fork Missionary Baptist Church, Charleston, with Pastor Mike Long officiating. The burial will follow the service in Nunley Cemetery, Charleston. A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 29, at the Church.
