

Gene was born in Charleston on October 4, 1948, to the late William Perry II and Ruth Elizabeth Lowe Brown. He was a retired pipefitter with E.I DuPont, Belle, with 27 years of service and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. While growing up in Belle, he attended Mt. Juliet United Methodist Church and was an avid trout fisherman.
Gene loved the community and gave back in many ways, such as being a foster parent; coaching little league football; and not only providing for his family but helping others that were in need.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Christy Brown; grandson, Kalijah Sutherland; sisters, Jeannie Critchfield and Bonnie Brown; and brother, Walter Lee Larwood.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jody Brown; daughter, Misty Spaulding of Teays Valley; sons, Robert (Ann Cook) Brown of Taylorsville, Utah, Scott (Lora Maynard) Brown of Winterville, North Carolina and James “JJ” Brown of St. Albans; grandchildren, Tiara Booth, Clayton and Tanner Spaulding, Madison Brown; great-grandchildren, Kodi and Braelynn Booth; sister, Fay Childress of Willow Springs, North Carolina; and brother, Perry Brown of Teays Valley.
Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday August 15, 2025, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with his brother, Perry Brown, officiating. Committal with Military Rites will be held at 2:00 p.m., following the service, at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington.
A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
