Eva G. Casto Mack, a beacon of pure kindness, unwavering faith, and boundless love, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of warmth that will forever comfort those who knew her. To know Eva was to know what it truly meant to be cared for; her heart was a safe harbor for her family, her friends, and every child who crossed her path.
Raised in Simmons Creek but currently a resident of Mink Shoals, Eva was a proud 1983 graduate of DuPont High School. She carried a rare, old-school work ethic throughout her life. For over 30 years, Eva was a familiar and comforting face at Kmart, where she served as a dedicated manager, before eventually retiring from both Kmart and Charleston Airport.
Retirement, however, didn't mean slowing down for Eva—it just meant redirecting her massive heart. She found her true joy working at The Growing Place Childcare Center. It wasn't just a job to her; it was a calling where her innate maternal warmth and love for children were able to truly thrive.
Eva was a Christian through and through, and she didn't just speak her faith—she lived it every single day through her actions. She had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. She loved the storytelling of country music, the excitement of traveling to new places, and the joy of keeping her home filled with laughter. Above all, Eva loved to take care of people. If you met Eva, you were family, and you were fed, loved, and looked after.
Eva’s greatest titles were those centered around her family. For the past 13 years, she shared a beautiful, loving marriage with her husband, Darrell Mack.
She was the deeply proud mother of her only child, Laura Casto Taylor, and her husband, Michael Taylor. Eva’s world revolved around her grandson, Colton Taylor, whom she loved beyond measure. Her capacity to love was so vast that it happily extended to another set of beloved children whom she wholly considered her grandchildren: Wyatt, Piper, and Tucker.
Eva is survived by her loving husband, Darrell; her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Michael; and her adored grandchildren, Colton, Wyatt, Piper, and Tucker. She also leaves behind her devoted siblings: Clayton “Buster” Campbell (Jane), Debbie Hutchinson (Mark), Gloria “Cookie” Johnson (Tyrone), Sonney Campbell (Tammy), Courtney Williams (Nate). She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who adored their aunt, as well as her very special, dear friends, Morgan Looney, Sandy Mace and Ginney Starkey.
Eva was reunited in heaven with her parents, Charles and Nancy Campbell, and her first husband, Larry Casto.
