Evan Christian Chad Stowers, age 18, earned his angel wings on September 13, 2020 to a hard fought battle with Spitzoid Melanoma in Canal Winchester, OH.

He is survived by his parents; Karrie Sheets (Roy Fernatt) and Ryan Stowers, siblings; Samantha (Clayton) Suggs and Andrew (Kandas) Stowers. His niece Peyton Evan-lea Stowers. His grandparents; Rita Gaylor (Tony), Wayne Sheets (Debby), Danny (Elana) Stowers. His uncles and aunts; Tina and Jamie Wolfingbarger and their son Nathan Moss, Justin Stowers, Christopher (Becky) Cox, Brittany (DJ) Vaughn, Tony (Lauren) Gaylor and Jonathan (Jordan) Gaylor. His beloved pets Daisy and Bubbles.

Evan was born in Charleston, WV on June 25th, 2002. Evan graduated from South Charleston in June 2020, where he ran cross country. Evan had been accepted to WVU and was intending to pursue a degree in Finance.

Evan enjoyed playing video games with his brother, Andrew, Cousin Nathan, and Cody. Evan loved to spend time with his niece Peyton who he had great love for and could make her chuckle just by making funny noises at her. He loved her dearly. Evan followed sports closely, basketball was his favorite to watch. He was a dedicated Milwaukee Bucks fan and a diehard Green Bay Packers fan. One of the best moments he had was meeting Aaron Rogers and experiencing his first Packers game with his mom and brother. Fun fact about Evan, he loved to blurt out random facts anywhere from sports to animals to weather. He was a huge jokester and loved to play jokes on his aunt. He would randomly pop-out of a closet or corner wearing a ghillie suit. Ev just loved life and loved laughter! He had the hugest smile and made an impression on all who met him. He was an aggressive and compassionate board game player who hated to lose and at times maneuvered the game in his favor. (Insert sarcasm here) He looked forward to game nights with his brother-in-law Clayton and his sister Samantha. He also looked forward to trips to the Sauna with his sister-in-law and mom. One of Ev’s favorite things to do was to go to camp with Roy and play corn hole. He loved Summersville Lake. Ev was a huge music fan and shared that passion with his dad Ryan and their trip to the Bahamas to see the clear blue water. Evan was known for his golden locks and sarcasm, which he boasted that he gets that from his Uncle Justin who he looked up too. Evan loved adventures and finding unique and international foods to try. On his many trips to Pittsburgh he would request that we tried a different restaurant. One thing that Ev stated throughout his battle with cancer was that he never wanted to see another child go through this. He wanted to make sure his story was known and to continue to share after he was gone. We will honor this request by educating and sharing his story.

Evan Stowers will never be forgotten, his legacy will live on forever. He touched so many and left an imprint on us all. One thing Ev would want, is not to be sad, but to live your life. Watch the sun set and rise. Feel the fresh ocean breeze on your face and laugh till your belly hurts. Don’t sweat the small stuff, don’t wait for tomorrow, because tomorrow is not promised. When you speak of Evan, speak with joy, not sadness, learn random facts, and tell a joke, live life to the fullest!

Due to the recent spike of COVID-19 in Kanawha County and that our County is in red, The Celebration Service has been changed and will be private for the family only at 1:00 PM on Saturday September 19, 2020 at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Pastors Darick Biondi and Tom Wise officiating. Per Evan’s wishes, following the services cremation will be honored.

The Celebration Service will be Live-Streamed on Stevens & Grass Funeral Home Facebook page.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is mandated by the Governor and the CDC that proper facial coverings be worn and that social distancing be observed. The family would like to thank all who have made donations and sent prayers and well wishes. Your contributions have been greatly appreciated.

We want to give a special thank you to our amazing Dream Team, Dr. Brittany Seynnaeve, Dr. Scott Maurer, Dr. Davar and his amazing hospice team! They took our Ev in like he was one of their own and loved him just as much as we did. Also a huge thank you to South Charleston High School, Ms. Williams, Nurse Mandy Jordan Burton, Tom Wise, Lynn Wise and Pastor Darick Biondi.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to WV Kids Cancer Crusaders, P.O. Box 11029, Charleston, WV 25339 or at www.wvkidscc.org

I've known Evan my whole life. I went to elementary school with him, I played baseball with him, he was there for me when I needed someone to talk to. He was always such a nice guy, a great friend, easy to talk to. I couldn't have asked for a better friend. He has fought this his whole life, but he won't have to fight anymore. He is finally at rest. So rest in paradise king, I'm going to miss you.

I never got to meet Evan but I love his mommy. She is the most awesome friend, person and mommy. My heart breaks for her and her family. May you have peace in your grieving and many family and friends around you. I love and miss you Karrie. I hope to see you again soon. Evan is in a safe non painful beautiful place. And you will be with him again someday. He will be there with open arms for you. Much love and many prayers. Patti

I didn’t know Evan and can’t remember how I began to follow. He and family were and are in my prayers. I truly felt a miracle was going to happen. I think Evan had this beat. I lost my brother to cancer 6 years ago and he fought until the Lord said I’m taking you from pain to healing....just like Evan. They’re in heaven bickering on who’s team is better. I wish you peace. Don’t let go of the Lord. I wish I could meet the family, Love to all of you ❤️

I have followed this young man on Facebook! He was an inspiration to many! I especially enjoyed his smiles that displayed the love that family and friends illustrated during this most difficult time!
As a Dermatology nurse of over 10 years I cannot express how important it is for individuals who have moles or lesions that they routinely see a Dermatologist to access and evaluate their skin. If Evan could leave an inspirational message I believe he would say “Keep God close”!

I did not have the privilege of knowing this precious child. I was updated about his battle since the diagnosis through family. He was a true Christian Warrior. He was always positive and smiling. Never giving up. Leading with such a passion for life.
Evan received a parade with thousands of angels escorting him to eternity. What a parade!!! Pain free paradise!
We all need to be aware the lack of funds that Children’s Cancer research receives.
We all need to honor Evan and support his cause. That one less child would have to go through this. One breath here the next with the Lord! Yay Evan . Congratulations on your wings!❤️😇
