She was the first born of the late Georgia and John L. Hamric on July 31, 1939. The beautiful home Jewell and Norval built, which became their most prized possession, to welcome friends and family. Jewel never tired of talking about her wonderful home to anyone she met. She was a living jewel and a bright light to her family’s life and loved and made each of them feel special, leaving a void that will never be filled.
Left to cherish her memory are brother, John L. Hamric, II (Suzy Acton) of Lancaster, OH; sisters, Shirley Bowen (Delbert) of Indian Land, SC, Sharon Fisher of Monroe, NC; sisters-in-law, Pat Cottrell of Charleston, Hazel Creasy of Winifrede, Nancy Gibson (Charlie) of Charleston; brother-in-law, Bob Dawson (Nancy) of Braxton County; and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norval K. Dawson; sister, Joyce Hamric Thomas; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Buster Dawson; sisters-in-law, Helen Massey and Peggy Jackson; brothers-in-law, Rex Cummings, Ralph Shank, Wimpy Hawkins, Jim Creasy, Dr. Robert B. Thomas and Bobby Fisher.
Jewell retired after many years from Kanawha County Juvenile Court, where she made many friends and lots of memories.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday May 18, 2024 at Southeast Church of the Nazarene, Kanawha City with Pastor Bart Hodel officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association Animal Shelter 1248 Greenbrier St. Charleston, WV 25311.
