OBITUARY

Gary Edward Matheny

February 15, 1959December 11, 2019

Gary Edward Matheny, 60 of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at his residence.

Gary was born in Charleston on February 15, 1959 to the late Ewell and Carol Walker Matheny. He was a former employee for the WV Department of Highways with over 20 years of service. He was a 1977 graduate of DuPont High School and attended the Campbells Creek Church of the Nazarene. Gary enjoyed sports and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Leonard and Irene Walker.

Gary is survived by his brother, Keith (Tammy) Matheny; nieces, Kelsey Vaughn and Kyleigh Matheny; companion, Toni Dolan all of Charleston.

Cremation will be honored and a memorial service will be held at a late date.

Keith, so sorry you have lost Gary much too soon. I remember you guys living with us and what wonderful memories we made. Gary was one of a kind and and always had a joke to share. What a humble and genuine guy. Living in NC the last several years I miss not being more involved and being around Gary. He is definitely going to be missed. Keith take care of yourself. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers...uncle Rusty.

I'm sorry for your loss, Gary was a truly nice guy! He'd help anyone and everyone. I'll miss him on his bike riding up and down Point Lick. He will be missed greatly by me and my family. Prayers for you and all for your loss,

Gary was part of a group of young men in the 1980s that played basketball everyday on my family's court. Gary could flat out shoot. We became life long friends. I think fondly of the many days and nights playing basketball with all of our friends and family.
