OBITUARY

Rev. Harold Lee Goff

July 21, 1925May 22, 2018

Rev. Harold Lee Goff (92) accepted an invitation to a reunion with his wife, one of his daughters, two of his sons, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. I imagine there was a lot of excitement as word spread on the golden streets that Harold had come home. I’m sure other family members and lots of friends must have come a running to greet the new kid on the block and show him around Heaven. Harold was born on July 21, 1925, in his parents’ home on Spring Fork Drive, Campbells Creek, WV. He attended Midway School and DuPont Hight School. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Champion during World War II, from 1943-1946. After surviving the war in the South Pacific, including a kamikaze attack, Harold came home to Campbells Creek, WV, went to church, and gave his heart and life to the Lord. He married Betty Ann McLaughlin on Nov. 2,1946. Soon after they were married, he and his wife were baptized together in Campbells Creek and began serving the Lord at Spring Fork Baptist Church. In the 1960’s, Harold surrendered to preach the gospel and to be a pastor. Churches he pastored included Rensford Missionary Baptist Church in Rensford, WV; Bethel Baptist Church in North Ridgeville, Ohio; Hope Baptist Church in Clinton, Ohio; Dry Branch Community Church, Dry Branch, WV; and Georges Creek Baptist Church, George Creeks, WV. In addition to pastoring for almost fifty years, Harold worked a full-time job in order to support his family. He worked for Union Carbide in Charleston. WV and retired from Allied Boiler in Cleveland, Ohio. Harold is preceded in death by his father Leonard Goff, his mother Sadie (Layton) Goff, his brother Fred Goff, his wife Betty Ann (McLaughlin) Goff, his son Edward Ray Goff, his son-in-law Daniel Mettler, his daughter Darlena Sue (Goff) Mettler, his son-in-law Bruce Smith, and his son Harold Mark Goff. He is survived by his brother Bill (and Faye) Goff of Bradenton, FL; his sister Joan (and Jim) Judy, of Orlando, FL; his son Marvin Lee (and Gwen) Goff, of Charleston, WV; his son Glen Marshall (and Penny) Goff, Sr., his daughter Charlotte (Goff) Smith, and his daughter Marlena Goff, all of Sullivan, OH; his daughter-in-law Bobbi Goff of Wooster, OH; his daughter-in-law Sandy Goff of South Charleston, WV; 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 27 at 2:00 in the afternoon at the Spring Fork Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Long and Harold’s son, Pastor Glen Goff, Sr., will be officiating. I have only the fondest memories of Harold and Betty. I followed Harold as Pastor at Georges Creek Baptist Church. It was my first Church and Harold stayed on at the Church for a few years to help. He was a gracious and kind man. He had a deep faith. Betty and Harold were not only my parishioners and helpers, they were my friends. I am thankful for his ministry at Georges Creek and for his long ministry throughout the Church Universal. I am thankful that he is now safe at home with our Lord. Pastor Keith A. George
