

Howard C. Smith “Smitty”, 80, of Blount went home to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Drema, of 57 years on Thursday, June, 16, 2016, after a short illness surrounded by his loving family by his bedside at St. Francis Select Specialty Hospital. He was born to the late John C. and Effie Mae Smith on October 25, 1935. Smitty was retired from Conrail Railroad as an engineer with 38 years of service. He was a volunteer at Pomeroy Fire Dept. He was a Navy veteran with 7 years of service. After retirement, Smitty’s passion was wood working and he could create anything out of wood. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Smith. He is survived by his sons, Greg (Vicki) Smith of Pomeroy, OH; Rick (Donna) Smith of Blount; daughter, Tracy (Jimmy) Vance of Blount; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, David (Marianne) Smith of Chicago, IL; Bob (Janet) Smith of Toledo, OH; Carl (Kathy) Smith of Winfield, WV; sisters, Nancy (Oliver) Carpenter of Lawrenceburg, IN, Debi (Richard) Drum of Lavalette, WV, Becky Morales of Fl. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Pastor Mike Long officiating. The burial will follow the service with military rites at Garten Cemetery, Blount. Family and friends will gather for a time of visitation on Tuesday, June 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and an hour prior to service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
