Irene met her late husband Curtis Asbury while he was stationed in Wiesbaden during the Korean Conflict. After the war, the couple came to America and settled in the Charleston area. Irene was an excellent cook, and loved to travel, sew, and knit. She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club of Charleston as well as the International Club.
In addition to her husband, Curtis, she was predeceased by her father Ludwig Zinn, mother Margaretha Amend Zinn, and siblings Regina Wust, Therese Hermer, and Heinz Zinn. She is survived by her son Gerald (Jill) Asbury, daughter Birgit (Karl) Shanholtzer, and grandchildren Emily Asbury and Kelli Shanholtzer. She is also survived by her brother Manfred Zinn, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all living in Germany.
