James was born in Charleston on September 19, 1953, to the late Garland Wallace and Ethel Frances Stewart Young. He was retired from Fleet Pride and was an avid hunter and fisherman and WVU fan. James was a member and actively served the Lord and the congregation at Kanawha City Baptist Church.
Left to cherish him memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Edna Marie Young; sisters, Susanna “Susie” Brassfield of Longs, South Carolina and Joyce (Harrell) Tucker of Charleston; brother, Wally (Margaret) Young of Reedy, West Virginia. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews that he loved dearly, and his beloved cat, Prince Albert. He was also preceded by his bird, Simon, and his kitty, Bubs.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday September 13, 2026, at Kanawha City Baptist Church with Pastor Don Toler officiating. There will be no visitation.
A Committal Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday September 14, 2026, at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
The family request donation in James’s memory be made to Kanawha City Baptist Church, 4500 Venable Avenue, Charleston, West Virginia 25304 of Kanawha Charleston Humane Society, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, West Virginia 25311.
